Squirrels 1st XI fall shorts

Despite defeat the Squirrels remained positive as Warrington left Rectory Fields with 17 points. Having lost the toss again and being inserted to bat on a damp wicket, and against top of the league it was always going to be a tough day.

The Squirrels made their way to 142 for 8 off their 45 overs thanks to stand in skipper Ganesh who top scored with 42. He played with great patience, regularly finding gaps in the field, hitting 6 fours and 1 six during his innings. Several other batsman made starts, but the quality of the Warrington bowlers showed as they picked up wickets just as batsman looked set. Elan hit 17 including a monster 6, Elliot Rowe 19, whilst Fulker hit 18 not out including two massive sixes.

Heading out to field, The Squirrels knew that Warrington would look to finish the game as quickly as possible. Amal and Tariq opened the bowling and Ali took a liking to the pace of Tariq immediately as he hit him for 22 off his opening 2 overs, despite him bowling some fantastic deliveries. This brought Sykes into the attack to slow things down and he created several chances immediately. A total of 3 dropped catches off his bowling, and several chances dropping agonizingly short of the fielders, he was extremely unlucky to finish his spell wicketless off his 11 overs.

Amal once again bowled extremely well, and he finished 1-31 off his 8 overs. Ganesh after starring with the bat also picked up 2 wickets to wrap up a good day for the all rounder. With Sykes bowled out, and Warrington only needing 1 to win, but Ali 6 to bring up his hundred, Rajeev was given the nod to bowl for the first time this season. He produced 6 fantastic deliveries, and with his final ball of the over, a doosra had Ali fooled, and he was stumped for a magnificent 94. This left Barratt to hit the winning runs which he did slapping a 4 through mid wicket to secure the win.

A good performance though from Wilmslow who have plenty of positives to take to their visit to Cholmondley on Saturday. Before the weekend though the Squirrels make the short trip to Langley in their final group game of the T20 cup.
