Despite magnificent knocks of 74 not out from Ganesh, and 49 from 32 from Elan, the Squirrels fell to an eleven run defeat to Langley which results in them being knocked out of this years T20 Competition.
Winning the toss, Ganesh invited to Langley to bat first and they got off to a flyer thanks to Robin Smith. Big hitting from the Langley captain had them fly to 46 off the first 3 overs of pace. The fourth over saw Wilmslow turn to the off spin from Lloyd Sykes and immediately from is end runs dried up. He put immediate pressure on Smith and Potts and both struggled to score off him. After the pressure from Sykes, both the Langley batsman looked to free themselves at the other end. Smith hit 2 huge 6’s off Ganesh to take him past 50 off just 20 balls, before falling the very next ball trying to repeat the two previous.
Sykes then deservedly picked up the wicket of Potts and both openers were gone and Langley were 79-2. Malik made his way to 24 in the only other notable score in the Langley innings, as the Wilmslow bowlers fought back after a tough start. Langley concluded the innings on 170-9 thanks to some big sixes in the final over of the innings.
Stand out bowling performance from Sykes who finished 1-13 off his 4 overs and Gajjar with a fantastic 3-22 off 3 overs. Ganesh finished with 2-38 from his 4, Ramu 2-32 off 3, whilst Amal and Gururajan both finished wicketless, but were unlucky to do so.
In reply, after the loss of Narayanan and Sykes early, it then became the Ganesh and Elan show. Both controlled the innings at a good place, regularly hitting the ball out of the ground. It was a fantastic effort in the chase, which would ultimately see the Squirrels fall just short. They finished 158-4 in reply off their 20 overs, with Ganesh unbeaten on 74.
A very positive performance despite the disappointment in defeat.
